Every year, approximately 500 3rd through 12th grade students from as far away as Van Horn converge upon UTPB campus for the Permian Basin Regional Science Fair. Students compete for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place within their categories, as well as for special awards from professional organizations such as the Trans-Pecos SPE, National Association of Corrosion Engineers [NACE], and government agencies such as the U.S Department of Health and Human Services and the branches of the military. As you can well imagine, the Fair is quite an undertaking - especially in the recruitment of qualified judges for the regular awards (these are the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place awards, not the special awards). The judging coordinators often look to industry and professional organizations for such judges. Anyone interested in judging the junior division projects (grades 3 - 5) or intermediate division projects (grades 6 - 8), may contact Steve Nelson @ nelson_s@utpb.edu . . Anyone interested in judging senior division projects (grades 9 - 12) may contact Steve Nelson @ nelson_s@utpb.edu . 552-2114
